Dear Leak,
Your letter of the 19th January. I personally
did not remember Stubbs saying that in one of the
piracies the Master was shot by the boatswain, and
although I made a search I are not been able to
find any despatch reporting it

accordingly sent a copy of your letter to Stubbs in
case he wished to add anything to the Notes. He has
now replied as follows:-
"I think that what Mr.Leak means is that I
said that I had heard it stated that in the "Tai Lee"
case the murder of the Captain was intended from the
first and that the piracy was rather committed in order
to murder the Cartain than the Captain murdered to
enable the piracy to be committed.
This was quite likely to be true but it is
impossible to prove it or to adduce any evidence: so as it
